It’ll be a reboot of the series which was originally adapted from a surprisingly dark comic and made into the kid-friendly animation that we all know and love in the late 80s/early 90s.
Numerous live-action movies followed (including a memorable appearance by Vanilla Ice in Turtles II) and an animated reboot popped up in 2003. There’s actually a third animated series in the works featuring the vocal talents of Sean Astin, Jason Biggs and the return of the great Rob Paulsen (who voiced Raphael in the original series).
Anyway, Liebesman will direct a live-action version which has already seen script drafts from Iron Man co-writers Art Malcum and Matt Holloway and Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol partnership Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec.
No word on plot or tone yet but I’m sure Leonardo, Michaeangelo, Raphael and Donatello will be kicking Shredder’s tin-can ass all over the shop while being taught by their man/rat master Splinter and consuming more pizzas than you can shake a katana at. Hopefully, it’ll be slightly more serious fare this time round – no one needs Vanilla Ice to make another cameo…
