Jonathon Rhys Meyers to Star in NBC and Sky’s Dracula

Jonathon Rhys Meyers is to take the titular role in Dracula, a co-production from NBC and Sky Living.

Stepping into shoes previously filled by Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, the face of Hugo Boss will be playing our favouriteCount (apart from Count Von Count from Seseme Street, of course) in a 10 part series.

True to Bram Stoker’s original material, the series will take place in the 1890s, it has been described by an apparently impossible to attribute source as “Dangerous Liaisons meets The Tudors”.

In the show, Meyer’s Dracula comes to London under the guise of an American business man advocating scientific advancement. Really though, he plans to exact revenge on those that wronged him hundreds of year prior. Naturally, things are complicated when he falls in love with a woman that reminds him of his long deceased wife.

“As one of the nation’s most iconic literary characters, this new incarnation of ‘Dracula’ feels like the perfect fit for our Sky Living audience. It’s an extremely exciting time for the channel and this co-production with NBCUniversal marks the start of big things to come.” Said Sky Living’s acting director Antonia Hurford-Jones.

A broadcast date has yet to be set, but it’s safe to say that this could replace 50 Shades of Grey as the latest thing to send housewives into an controllable fit of quivering.
