Justin Lin Signs Two-Year Universal Deal

Universal know a cash cow when they see one and right now Justin Lin is the one giving the most moo. The surprisingly good (someday I’ll stop saying that) Fast Five grossed over $600 million at the international box office, so they’ve signed him and his Barnstorm Entertainment company to exclusively produce mainstream films for them for the next two years.

So what projects are we likely to see Lin turn his attentions to? Well firstly there’s the sixth in the Fast And Furious series for which Vin Diesel is no doubt applying the final coat of oil to his muscles for as we speak.

But then there’s Leading Man based on the Oni Press comics series about a world-famous movie star who uses his celebrity and glamorous location shoots across the world as a cover story for his real job as an international spy. Sort of like a grown up Hannah Montana then.

There’s also a fair few projects that don’t have names yet too. These include a film about America’s 442nd infantry, a Japanese-American unit that became the most highly decorated regiment in US military history and a sci-fi/crime thriller written by Lin’s assisntant on Fast Five Robert Glickert who will also be directing in his feature debut.

Lin is also still attached to extremely bad idea Terminator 5 and though he pulled out of Highlander two weeks ago, he’ll likely to oversee its production.

Fast Six will be the first of those to hit our screens on May 27th 2013.
