In Channel 5’s adaptation of the American show, 25 girls will be competing for Henson’s affections, while they live in an Eastern European villa together. The broadcaster teased that viewers should expect “flirting, bitchin and heartfelt emotion” as the ladies compete for his heart. Ambitious career women, models and even a web developer are thought to be among the hopefuls.
Not for the first time, there has been some discussion as to whether this will impact on his rugby career, especially with the rugby World Cup fast approaching. Former Wales rugby international Gareth Llewellyn saying that his appearance wouldn’t sit well with the public’s expectations of players. “The important thing about this is it can’t conflict with his rugby commitments,” he told the BBC.
However Henson, who took part in reality shows Strictly Come Dancing and 71 Degrees North was quick to admit that he was eager to get going with the project.
“I’m so excited to have been cast as The Bachelor as I really feel the time is right for me to find a girl to hopefully spend the rest of my life with,” he said.
“I’ve always been dedicated to my rugby and continue to train hard but as the season draws to an end I can focus on meeting the right girl. It can be hard in my situation to meet women and The Bachelor will give me the unique opportunity to go on some incredible dates and spend quality time getting to know amazing women from all over the UK.”
