Can racist misogynist Mel Gibson get his career back on track? The Beaver got a critical drubbing in Cannes when it was screened and his cameo in The Hangover sequel was unceremoniously pulled, so he’s looking for another role. Variety reports that he’s entering talks to join heist comedy Sleight Of Hand.
Giancarlo Giannini, Jon Lovitz and Johnny Hallyday have all signed on for the film with possible appearances from Keifer Sutherland, Gerard Depardieu, Til Schweiger, Thomas Jane and Eric Cantona revealed in first round casting last week. They’ll play a bunch of inept Parisian burglars who inadvertently make off with a rare coin belonging to a gangster.
Hang on a moment, doesn’t that sound a little like Christopher Walken’s forthcoming Seven Psychopaths if you replace “dog” with “coin”? Dog, coin, MacGuffin, it’s all the same.
While Gibson isn’t confirmed for the role, it will be interesting to see where he goes next with Adrian Grunberg’s crime drama How I Spent My Summer Vacation still awaiting a release date.
