Meryl Streep As Thatcher – First Pics

Thatch210All the Best Actress Nominees will probably be hiding behind the sofa next year as Meryl Streep is set to return to our screens as none other than Margaret Thatcher. The Iron Lady will tell the story of Thatcher just before the war with with Falkland Islands in 1982.

It’s got (as you’d expect) a strong line up of British acting talent with Jim Broadbent as Maggie’s husband Dennis, Anthony Head as Geoffrey Howe, Richard E. Grant as Michael Heseltine and Roger Allam as Gordon Reece.

The record for ‘Most Extras In One Film’ could also be under threat after producers hinted that there would be Job Centre scenes in the movie..

Although it’s got Mammia Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd in the director’s chair, there probably won’t be any musical numbers – shame because we can imagine humming jaunty little numbers while the Belgrano gets blown out of the water. We’re wondering if the infamous confrontation between housewife Diana Gould and Maggie about the incident will played out, perhaps with Sigourney Weaver in Gould’s role?

The Iron Lady will be out later this year.
