Michael Sucsy, the director of Channing Tatum weepy The Vow, is in in talks to direct a musical by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) featuring the music of The Beach Boys.
Details of script are being kept mostly under wraps but excitingly they do have the rights to most of the back catalogue. That’s thanks to some high-powered producing power from Craig Zedon and Neil Meron, who worked on the big screen adaptations of Chicago and Hairspray and the involvement of John Stamos who rather handily is a friend of the band.
It’s by no means a sure box office hit – Mamma Mia! netted a staggering $610 million but Beatle’s inspired Across The Night only did a modest $29 million. Still with The Beach Boys timeless success, there’s as good as chance as any that this will be more box office gold for Universal.
