Midsomer Murders creator Brian True-May has found himself suspended after making the claim that the reason behind the showâs success is because of its lack of multiculturalism.
Describing the popular crime-drama as the âlast bastion of Englishnessâ?, he stated there was âno placeâ? for non-white characters in the narratives of his TV show.
He continued his controversial ramblings when speaking to the Radio Times magazine: âWe are a cosmopolitan society in this country, but if you watch âMidsomerâ you wouldnât think so. Iâve never been picked up on that, but quite honestly I wouldnât want to change it.â?
âWe just donât have ethnic minorities involved. Because it wouldnât be the English village with them.â?
ITV bosses, whose channel has been the programme’s home for years, have described their reactions as âshocked and appalled at these personal comments by Brian True-May which are absolutely not shared by anyone at ITV.â?
As they attempted to distance themselves from the producer, True-May was then suspended by programme makers All3Media.
Nothing like a spot of casual racism to get you kicked out of the work place now is there?
