Misfits USA?

American TV producers have their beady eyes on yet more of our TV gold. This time it’s Misfits that might be making the move across the Atlantic.

The Hollywood Report is saying that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the team behind Gossip Girl and Chuck, have picked up the rights to the show. But will the producers behind a glossy show about rich kids and…gossip…really be able to pull off a rip-roaring, low budget show like Misfits?

Audience favourite, Nathan (Robert Sheehan), already made the trip across the pond earlier this year for a special Las Vegas episode which saw Nathan attempting to use his new superpowers to scam the casinos and win some big bucks.

But for the past couple of years the show has clearly demonstrated you don’t need masses of cash to make a compelling television show. Airing on channel E4, and with several BAFTA awards to its name, Nathan Stewart Jarrett, Antonia Thomas, Lauren Socha, Robert Sheehan, and Iwan Rheon, star as young offenders sentenced to serve community service together, whose lives are changed forever by a freak storm.

Much of the show’s success is down to show creator Howard Overman and his team, and the third season of Misfits looks set to keep the standard high.
There’s no American network involved yet so there is a long way to go before anyone can start hoisting the star-spangled banner. But let it be known that work is underway…
