Origin tales have taken Hollywood by storm in recent years and apparently one of Britain’s favourite TV detectives will be getting the same treatment next year.
ITV will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first series of Morse with a one-off special set in 1965.
The drama will be titled Endeavour (just like the detective’s unusual first name) and will star Shaun Evans, who has previously appeared in Teachers and Ashes to Ashes as the young classical-music loving Morse.
The Sun reports that Evans will have to make do with a normal black police jaguar rather than the iconic red one fans remember from the original series. An ITV spokesperson explained that the character acquired his prized red motor later in life, according to Colin Dexter’s novels.
