Interviewed by Deadline, Luhrmann remains adamant that he has made no firm decision on whether or not The Great Gatsby will be his next project despite casting Mulligan.
“There are a few elements that I feel need to be resolved before I would categorically state that this is my next film.”
On the issue of Mulligan he added: “Regarding the role of Daisy Buchanan… I was thrilled to pick up the phone an hour ago to the young Oscar-nominated British actress Carey Mulligan and say to her, ‘Hello, Daisy Buchanan.'”
Already cast are Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, the novel’s narrator.
