Terrence Malick is clearly making up for lost time. The director, whose last film The Tree Of Life won the Palm D’Or at Cannes and is nominated for three Oscars including Best Picture, usually makes a film every five years or so, has got no fewer than four films in the works. Now it’s been announced that Natalie Portman will star in two of them – Knight Of Cups and Lawless – her first roles since she won the Best Actress Oscar for Black Swan.
Knight Of Cups will star Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas which will begin shooting this summer. Malick is notoriously secretive, so there’s very little about the plot or quite what role Portman will be playing.
That’ll be followed in the autumn by Lawless which will also feature Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett. Predictably, there are no details about that either although presumably it won’t be a biopic of Xena: Warrior Princess…
Malick’s going to be a very busy man as he’s also got a untitled Ben Affleck/Rachel McAdams romance in post-production and a documentary called Voyage Of Time. Can’t wait.
