NBC To Do American Version Of Mangan’s Free Agents

Anyone with a taste for satirical comedy may well be watching Episodes, a Anglo-American joint venture which stars Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan as well as a host of smiley Americans.

Poking fun at Hollywood, while simultaneously managing to actually make Matt LeBlanc funny, Episodes comments upon America’s penchant for remaking British television hits and changing things to make them more, shall we say, American friendly.

So it is rather funny that as this new comedy begins to air, another Stephen Mangan show, Free Agents has been bought up by NBC for an American remake.

Whether this is a good or a bad thing remains to be seen, but changes are already in the offing with their fictional jobs rumoured to be changed from theatrical agents to PR executives.

The ultimate question of whether the rather dark humour is lessened by the American remake can’t be fully commented upon either at this early stage, but you can bet that particular scenes involving dishwashers and dildos will most probably not sit well with the American sense of humour, just look at the controversy the American Skins remake has caused.
