The new web series of Mortal Kombat is edging ever nearer and to get your fists itching, here’s a clip of Michael Jai White as Jax and Darren Shahlavi beating the crap out of each other in what appears to be a steel mill.
The series is moving away from the absurdly cartoonish fatalities and buckets of gore that made the game so (in)famous, instead delivering a hefty dose of gritty action and action chop-sockery. Could this be the first Mortal Kombat movie that’s doesn’t deserve to be uppercutted into a spike pit? The thing is, Mortal Kombat is pretty much defined by its over-the-top violence and if we weren’t told, we probably wouldn’t have singled it out as an MK movie.
Well, beggars can’t be choosers and the cast has Jeri “Seven Of Nine” Ryan as Sonya Blade and Anthony Dale as Scorpion. The plot (plot?! What is this?) sees Scorpion being tasked by Jax and Sonya to bring down the evil overlord Shang Tsung while trying to keep his animosity towards his brother Sub-Zero in check. It’s out on April 12th, so head over to http://www.machinima.com/ at 8pm UK time (12pm PST). I’m off to see if I can roundhouse kick someone into a massive whirling fan…
