News Corporation, owned by Rupert Murdoch, is nearing a deal that will allow it to acquire the 60.9% of Sky that it does not already own.
The Financial Times reports that Murdoch is close to allaying the fears of the Office of Fair Trading, who were worried about the effect the takeover would have on media plurality.
What News Corp has suggested as way to rectify the problem remains unknown, but reports suggest that an announcement could be made next week.
Those opposed to the takeover have expressed worries that if the takeover goes ahead then News Corp would control both the UK’s biggest newspaper group and biggest broadcaster, which would obviously decrease the diversity of voices in the media.
