The next series of The Crystal Maze will feature a brand new “Eastern Zone”.
The Radio Times is reporting that the Eastern Zone is based on the art, architecture and monuments of East Asia. It will include a lily pond, cherry blossom trees, ornate vases, and five game rooms containing eight new games.
It appears that the Eastern Zone will replace the Medieval Zone, retaining the Futuristic, Aztec and Industrial Zones. It will be the first new zone since the Ocean Zone replaced Industrial in the fourth series of the show’s original run.
James Dillon, the production designer who has designed every zone in the Maze told the Radio Times: “The challenge, to create a zone referencing such an ancient and beautiful part of the world, and to bring those intense, rich colours and textures to the mix of zones that make up the Maze, has been most enjoyable”.
The next series of the show, hosted by Richard Ayoade, will run for 13 episodes later this year.
