Alex Proyas’s ambitious adaptation of John Milton’s Paradise Lost has finally been cancelled. It’s been limping along for quite a while now – Thomas Tull at Legendary Pictures was the man to put it on hold after the budget spiralled into the £120m range and many studios have been pressing the pause button with regards to big projects lately.
They were planning to shoot in the spring but now the whole thing’s been called off entirely. Frankly, that’s unsurprising as the special effects budget required to create the celestial splendour of huge battles between angels and demons would have been absolutely enormous.
The film was to have starred Bradley Cooper, Benjamin Walker, Diego Boneta, Camilla Belle, Casey Affleck, Calla McAuliffe and Djimon Hounsou but they’ll be going their separate ways now.
