Pitt Signs Up For McQueen’s Twelve Years A Slave

Happy days indeed. Steve McQueen’s only made two films but they’re both excellent and both starred Michael Fassbender. Hunger was a film about Irish Republican Bobby Sands and the forthcoming Shame is a fantastic piece about loneliness and sexual addiction that’s one of the highlights of The London Film Festival.

Now Brad Pitt’s signed up for McQueen’s new project, Twelve Years A Slave. Pitt was already involved as Plan B, his production company were working on it, but Screen Daily have managed to do some digging and found that he’s now definitely taking an acting role as well.

There’s no word yet on exactly what kind of role Pitt will take but the story will star Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northrup, a free black man living in 1850s New York. He visits Washington after receiving an offer of work but is kidnapped and sold into slavery and is only released after a Canadian carpenter smuggled letters to Solomon’s wife who started a court case to get him released.

It’s adapted from Northrup’s own autobiography published in 1853 and will begin shooting sometime next year. No sign of Fassbender yet though…
