Police Academy Reboot Underway

Hey everyone, you know Police Academy, that movie franchise which was funny approximately one and half times but then spawned more sequels than Rocky? Well, it’s getting a remake. Just what we need, more recycled 80s movies.

It’ll be made by New Line Cinema and handed to first time director Scott Zabielski who has worked on a few episodes of Comedy Central’s Toso.O (yeah, we don’t know either) and is coincidentally a part-time police office.

The first film was released in 1984 and starred Steve Gutenberg (where are you now Steve?!) as wisecracking new police recruit Mahoney. He and his fellow recruits were constantly called upon to save the day despite the rage of their Lieutenant Harris. The new film will feature a cast of up and coming stars (still to be announced).

Original producer Paul Malansky who will also be behind the reboot told The Hollywood Reporter “It’s going to be very worthwhile to the people who remember it and to those who saw it on TV. It’s going to be a new class. We hope to discover new talent and season it with great comedians. It’ll be anything but another movie with a numeral next to it. And we’ll most probably retain the wonderful musical theme.”
