If you’re of the ‘pass the sick bucket’ school of thought when it comes to romance, then don’t say we didn’t warn you… That’s right, the official promotional image for One Day has arrived and it is a smooch-fest.
While those of you celebrating the end of Valentine’s Day may well be retching at the sight of said poster, I for one think it is a classy little image captured rather stylishly (and which surprisingly bucks the trend for samey romantic posters). Fair enough it looks more like an expensive perfume ad, but I’m biased: as one of many who read the best-selling book on which the film is based, the poster only serves to drum up interest in the film, which author David Nicholls himself adapted the film script for.
Starring Anne Hathaway and English actor Jim Sturgess (who played Jude in 2007’s Across the Universe), One Day follows the story of Emma and Dexter who meet on July 15, 1988, and tracks their lives – and the inevitable ups and downs – for the next 20 years on that same day.
With An Education ’s Lone Scherfig behind the camera, this is one film with a lot of interest behind it already, so let’s hope they get it right…
