John Davis, one of the producers that helped get Josh Trank and Max Landis’s found footage hit Chronicle to the big screen has snapped up the rights to Aaron Sims’ short film Archetype.
The story follows RL7, an eight-foot tall combat robot that goes on the run after malfunctioning with vivid memories of once being human.
As its creators and the military close in, RL7 uncovers the truth behind its mysterious visions and past. Sounds quite Robocop-y actually but there aren’t enough films with massive strident war mechs, so we’re all for that.
Although this would be Sims’ first feature, he’s long established in the business as he runs a previs and VFX company (The Aaron Sims Company) that helped work all sorts of visually impressive projects including Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Transformers and Sucker Punch.
Davis meanwhile has previous form when it comes to working with robots having produced I, Robot way back in 2004.
