Definitely coming out of retirement (again) to kick more youthful butt are Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich as the director for Red 2 is announced.
The surprise box office hit of 2010, Red, took almost $200 million at the worldwide box office with Summit Entertainment (understandably) considering a sequel ever since the cash began rolling in.
That sequel has now arrived and will be under the dubious direction of Dean Parisot. It will be the Fun With Dick and Jane’s first directorial adventure since 2005….hmmm. He’s replacing Robert Schwentke, who opted not to come out of Red retirement for another round.
While original script-writer, Eric Hoeber, will come fresh from Battleship to pen this next all-action outing.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Willis, Malkovich and Mirren are all possibilities to return, though no deals are locked in yet. And it also mentions Morgan Freeman, despite the fact that he – Spoiler alert! – supposedly got nobbled in the first film.
The project will have to wait until Willis is done with Die Hard 5. God help us all.
But with Summit keen to get Red 2 shot before the end of year, those golden oldies better get things moving.
