Paul W.S. Anderson, director of Resident Evil and Death Race, is planning a movie about the eruption of Vesuvius that decimated the Roman city of Pompeii, according to reports.
Production is set to begin in 2012 and the script has been written by Lee Batchler and Janet Scott Batchler of Batman Forever fame.
The story will apparently focus on a romance between a slave and his master’s daughter. The slave finds himself trapped on a ship headed for Naples as the volcano erupts and is determined to go back and rescue both his love and best friend, who is a gladiator trapped in the city’s coliseum.
Anderson’s latest film, The Three Musketeers starring Orlando Bloom, Christoph Waltz and Mila Jovovich is currently in post-production and due for release on October 14.
