Rob Beckett is to star in a new comedy for Channel 4 about video games this spring.

Playing for Time sees Beckett and his guests travelling “back in time” to the 1980s, and the only way to get back to the present is to complete a level of a classic video game from each decade. Fellow comedian Kerry Godliman also stars as Beckett’s guide, playing the “Time lord of the space time continuum”.

Confirmed guests for the 4×30 minute series so far include Josh Widdicombe, Rachel Riley, Asim Chaudhry and Scarlett Moffat. The series will also be sponsored by the video game shop chain GAME.

Beckett said: “If you think being paid to play classic compueter games sounds like the best job in the world… that’s because it absolutely 100% is! I had so much fun playing with old friends like Sonic, Mario and Lara Croft.”
