Spike Jonze hasn’t been behind the camera on a big screen production since 2009’s Where The Wild Things Are. That’s not to say he’s been resting on his laurels as he’s been making shorts and assisting other with their work. And apparently has a cameo in Moneyball (which I confess, I completely missed). But now, he’s gearing up for another silver screen outing with Rooney Mara in talks to replace Carey Mulligan in his next as yet untitled film.
Variety has it that the plot will see a man falling in love with a computer’s voice. Well I always thought Majel Barrett’s Star Trek intonation was rather sexy… Anyway, that’s probably not all there is to it as we’ve heard reportst that it will involve scientists and a catatrophic event.
There’s a great cast already assembled including Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton. Mara’s in high demand at the moment after Fincher’s take on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo – she’s got Terence Malick’s Lawless coming up and Steven Soderbergh’s The Bitter Pill both of which will be out next year.
