Russell Tovey To Front New Comedy From ‘Rev’ Team

After pledging to “make a big splash” in the field of comedy, ITV have announced plans for a new sitcom about life at a job centre which will star former Being Human werewolf Russell Tovey.

Given the way our government is taking us all into a second recession, The Job Lot could be even more relevant by the time it reaches our screens and ITV have enlisted the services of the writers behind hit BBC sitcom Rev to create a flagship show, for what ITV hope will be a comedy comeback.

“We dropped out of the comedy game and it feels like there has been incompleteness in the schedule,â€? said ITV director of entertainment and comedy Elaine Bedell, who has obviously never seen Downton Abbey. “It’s now the genre we want to make a big splash in.â€?

“Comedy is difficult – it’s risky, exposed and you need to hold your nerve when they come on air,â€? she added. “We will not be too quick to judge.â€?

Set in a West Midlands Job Centre, the show could air in the 8.30pm Thursday slot recently vacated by Coronation Street, say Broadcast. Apparently it will be a “warmâ€? comedy inspired by blue-collar lifestyles in the mould of Benidorm.

ITV also confirmed the arrival of two other shows, Naked House, starring Jason Manford and Great Night Out, a comedy about a weekly night out for four thirty-something blokes.
