The BBC have confirmed that Sarah Millican’s Television Programme will be returning for a second series next year – well technically this year, because the first of seven new episodes will be a Christmas Special.
âI am thrilled everyone liked the show enough to invite us back!” said the stand-up comic. “It was a joy to make the first series, with such a great team of people, and I can’t wait to get cracking on the second.”
The show – which featured special guests, audience participation and some extended TV themed monologues – kicked off with over two million viewers this year and although that number fell to around 1.5 million by the end of the series, the Beeb have commissioned a second series.
Some pundits have accused Millican of being rather one-dimensional and low-brow but Alan Tyler, BBC executive editor for entertainment commissioning is delighted with the news.
“Sarah is one of the best comic performers in the UK,” he said. “Following the success of the first series we are delighted to be bringing her back to the BBC2 audience.â?
