That attractive blonde is not some new female British talent. It is, in fact, Sean Bean in his latest role for Jimmy McGovernâs BBC1 drama, Accused.
A far cry from his swarthy sergeant alter ego, Sharpe, the 52-year-old looks happy sporting a long, blonde wig and sequinned dress for his role as a lonely heart transsexual in the second series of the hit legal drama.
Bean plays an English teacher called Simon Gaskell along with his female identity, Tracie Tremarco, whose quest for love leads to the courtroom.
Speaking about he series, he said: âIâve wanted to work on a Jimmy McGovern drama for a while and I think this cracking script really delivers a powerful, emotional drama for the audience.â?
And we get to see Sean in a dress.
Last series, which told the stories of several different characters, all of whom were shortly due to find out their fate in the dock, proved such a hit with viewers that it was commissioned for a second series. This time round theatre star Anna Maxwell Martin, Stephen Graham (This Is England â88) and Liverpudlian funny man, John Bishop, are due to make cameo appearances.
Ben Stephenson, controller of drama commissioning at the BBC, confirmed Bean would appear in the third episode of the four-part series, telling members of the Broadcasting Press Guild: âHe’s playing a transsexual, a brilliant story, untold I think on mainstream television.â?
We think so too.
