On a mission to become the first in the world to capture all 39 species of Birds of Paradise, photographer Tim Laman and ornithologist Ed Scholes have spent the better part of a decade sleeping in tents and dangling from the rain forest canopy and survived everything the jungle has to throw at them.
They travel deep into the impenetrable jungle of one of last wild places on earth, New Guinea, where ordinary birds have evolved into some of the most beautifully bizarre species with their extraordinarily colorful feathers, which they display in dances executed with ballerina-like grace, the birds of paradise are a living laboratory of natural selection.
