Making his directorial debut with the entertaining, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, which also starred Robert Downey Jr, Shane Black will be tackling the tin-man of comic book heroes for the third instalment, with the previous two directed by Jon Favreau.
The announcement was made during a panel at the Omaha Film Festival which Black attended, and although not confirmed by Walt Disney Pictures or Marvel Studios, the word came from the man himself, so it is pretty much a given fact that he will be flexing his directing talents for a second time.
Telling the audience of the panel that he is scheduled to meet with Downey later in the week who will also be contributing to the story, it has been decided that the plot will focus on Tony Stark and his Iron Man alter ego rather than introduce further characters from the Marvel universe, an idea the previous sequel delved into which resulted in some criticism.
As Black has stated, “Iron Man 3 will not be another ‘two men in iron suits fighting each other’ film. Instead, it will be more like a Tom Clancy-thriller, with Iron Man fighting real world villians.”
Currently set for a May 3rd 2013 release, there is still plenty of time for further news to leak.
