To be broadcast on ITV1 at the end of the summer, Red or Black? will offer members of the public the chance to become millionaires every night for a seven days.
The show will take place over the course of a week and viewers will watch as thousands of entrants are whittled down to just 8 finalists – all of which have a chance of taking home £1 million each. Cowell joked that bosses would have to take out insurance policies to cover the eventuality that all 8 finalists win the jackpot, but also spoke of his desire to make “big new television shows” which excited viewers.
“Many shows which offer big cash prizes don’t often give away those top amounts,” said Cowell. “With Red or Black, all 8 people could win or all of them could lose, it all depends on that final spin of the roulette wheel. We also won’t be giving people the chance to walk away – they will have to play for the million.”
The event starts this summer as Wembley becomes the Red and Black? Arena, with Ant & Dec presideing over a host of challenges which will include some celebrity cameos. In each subsequent challenge, contestants will be presented with a 50:50 choice, with the winners moving on to the next round until only a handful remain.
Wembley Arena could be seeing a bit more action later in the year after Cowell told reporters that he would be making an ‘exciting’ announcement concerning the venue for this year’s X Factor live semi-final and final.
