Simon Mayo To Host Blockbusters Revamp

Last month saw the tragic death of former Blockbusters host, Bob Holness, but his word-based quiz show is on track to experience a re-birth.

Radio 2 host, Simon Mayo, has been named as the new host of the Blockbusting game show.

Mayo told The Sun: “No one needs to worry, it will be exactly the same — same set, same board, the same theme tune, although slightly updated.

“The prizes will probably be the same too, although you don’t win a dictionary, you win an e-reader.”

Despite the prize undergoing a radical technical overhaul, Mayo is adamant that “the spirit of the show will be exactly the same. That’s why I said yes.â€?

News about the 80s/90s TV classic undergoing a revamp emerged last year but with the announcement of Simon Mayo as host, Blockbusters-fever is really beginning to set in.

There is even talk that a few celebrity faces who are fans of show may be invited to take part. Even Labour leader, Ed Miliband, is in line for an official Blockbusters inviter after he tweeted his condolences to the former host’s family when Holness died aged 83.

Mayo added: “I think there is a lot of talk about a celebrity edition. I’ll have a word with the celebrity bookers. But if I were advising Ed I’d tell him to think again.

“It is a feel good programme. It would be nice to do Bob proud. His legacy is so extraordinary which is why some politicians thought they ought to add to the condolences.”

Filming for the series has already begun at Sky’s studios in Bentford and we can expect to see contestants of all ages asking Simon for a “Pâ€? when the show returns to our screens later this year.
