My Family star Robert Lindsay is set to star as the head of MI5 in Sky1’s new comedy SPY.
The sitcom sees Smack the Pony’s Darren Boyd as unlucky single dad Tim, who gets recruited to work for MI5. Lindsay, who played Ben Harper in recently axed BBC1 sitcom about a dentist and his long-suffering relatives, plays Tim’s boss at MI5.
The show will also feature Dolly Wlls as Tim’s ex-wife Judith (Dolly Wells), her enthusiastic new boyfriend Philip played by Tom Goodman-Hill and Rebekah Staton as fellow spy Caitlin.
“In SPY we have an exciting young cast and a brilliant new writer in Simeon Goulden,” said Sky’s head of Comedy Lucy Lumsden. “It is the first of several new British comedies aimed at a family audience.”
Executive producer Jimmy Mulville added: “The writing, the characters and the situations in SPY mark it as one of the funniest and strangest takes on the family comedy.
SPY will be screened on Sky 1 this autumn. The 11th and last series of My Family will be shown on BBC One later this year.
