Soviet Spy Drama ‘Reds’ For HBO

HBO is reportedly working on a spy drama set in the 1980s about the real-life exploits of a Russian spy in the USA.

Deadline reports that the series, titled Reds, will be based on the real experiences of writer and director Martin Burke, who travelled across the country filming a documentary unaware that his sound man was a KGB operative.

The spy later established a base in New York while posing as an American citizen, but was eventually caught.

However, Reds will be a loose adaptation and feature a number of Russian spies who live in the States whilst relaying information back to Moscow.

Burke is currently editing a documentary called Journalists Under Fire about the psychological stresses faced by war journalists covering conflicts.
