After a bumper sporting year for Great Britain, the BBC has released the twelve athletes shortlisted for this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award. The list is jam-packed with London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic stars.
Bradley Wiggins, the first Brit to ever win the Tour de France is the bookies favourite, but the cyclist will be pushed closely for the honour by Jessica Ennis and Mo Farah, who also won gold medals this summer.
Britain’s most successful female rower Katherine Grainger, US Open and Olympic tennis champion Andy Murray, sailor Ben Ainslie, Scouse boxer Nicola Adams, and cyclist Sir Chris Hoy are also included. Paralympians on the list include Sarah Storey, Ellie Simmonds and David Weir. The only non-Olympic star on the list is golfer Rory McIlroy.
A phone vote on the night of December 16 by viewers will determine the winner of the prestigious award.
