Strictly: Dell’Olio Digs Her Hells In After BBC Ban Her Stillettos

She once described herself as “the most famous Italian woman since Sophia Lorenâ€? and Nancy Dell’Olio has certainly been living up to the hot-headed Mediterranean stereotype today.

The feisty ex-girlfriend of Sven Goran Eriksson has been paired with Anton du Beke in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up but her dreams of strutting around the dance floor in her favourite pair of £600 stilettos have been shattered.

Producers have told her that the towering six-inch heels break health and safety regulations at the BBC and will not be permitted in any of the practice studios.

Fifty-year-old Ms Dell’Olio was furious at the news that she would have to make do with regulation two-inch heels and refused to wear them. After much persuading, and once reminded that size is not everything, she eventually agreed to wear four-inch stilettos as a compromise.

There is also trouble elsewhere in the dancing troop. Pint-sized singer, Lulu, is also upset about her pairing with Brendan Cole.

She is concerned that the brutal Brendan will be too tough on her, as with his previous partners. The 62-year-old did not look impressed when, live on Saturday’s opening show, Cole slung her over his shoulder. Too much flesh for a family show.
