Strictly’s Russell Grant Turned Down X Factor

Russell Grant spangled his way out of the BBC’s ballroom dancing competition once and for all last night, after achieving his dream of “making Wembley”.

His toe-curling performance on Saturday night – which was watched by 12.5 million viewers – earned him a one-way ticket out of Strictly but in true Grant style, the lovable astrologer refused to go quietly.

Grant has been boasting that he was approached by rival show, X Factor, “weeks agoâ€? but declined the offer.

He said: “About four weeks ago I got a call from someone. I won’t name names. But basically they said, ‘If you get voted out before the final, will you come and be a guest judge for one of the shows?’ It would have been my forte… the presentation of the song is my thing.”

But Grant respectfully declined the career-boosting invite: “I said, ‘Thank you ever so much but I’m with Strictly until Blackpool because we all go to the final’.”

The rotund star-gazer added that he had been inundated with “unbelievable” job offers since appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, and thanked the show’s viewers for helping him progress.

“In the end if you haven’t got the judges’ scores with you, the public can only do so much,” he said. And the public got me to my final – I never even thought I’d make Wembley and the fact I did was just awesome. It was the night of my television life.”
