This one’s been a long time in the works. Last June there was a scramble to find a director to helm the prequel to Frank Miller’s 300 after Zack Snyder dropped out due to conflicts with The Man Of Steel. Now Noam Murro has finally got the job, he’s been busy doing some casting. Eva Green is is in talks to take the lead female role as Artemsia and now it looks like Animal Kingdom actor Sullivan Stapleton will be joining her.
He’ll be playing the Persian King Xerxes who has delusions of godhood (played by Rodrigo Santoro in 300) who sends the might of his armies against the Greeks. But despite the opposing army being a rag-tag rabble, they are led by a skilled general called Themistokles.
Interestingly, the role of Themistokles was at one point going to be filled by fellow Animal Kingdom star Joel Edgerton but that seems to have fallen by the wayside…
