The Expendables Will Be R-Rated (Phew!)

In January we reported that Chuck Norris was going to exercise his personal might to make The Expendables 2 a PG-13, something which would surely spell disaster for the sequel. Well now it looks like an R rating is back on the cards with Dolph Lundgren confirming to the lovely folks over at Empire this weekend.

“I heard that it’s now R again,” says Dolph. “Stallone’s basic setting is to make it very violent. That’s just in his personality, and if it was me I would do the same. I guess the producers figure they can make another $50m if it’s PG-13, and if it was my money I might say the same thing! But I think for the fans, if it’s tougher it’s better.”

Chuck orginally made the comments to a Polish magazine – saying that he found the vulgar dialogue in the screenplay offensive and that he told producers he wouldn’t be in the movie if it was left in. But it seems that that’s his own personal editing style and will not reflect the content of the theatrical release as Lundgren elabarates,

“Chuck likes to re-cut all of his films before he shows them to his kids,” grins Dolph. “He told me he has his own editor. So it’s irrelevant! He could make it a G-rating if he wanted to!”

Sounds like rubbish to us – more like producers managed to reign in some of Chuck’s demands. Either way, Chuck and Lungren will be seen with Arnie, Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Liam Hemsworth when The Expendables 2 hits our screens in the summer.
