The Golden Globe Nominations

The Golden Globes were announced this afternoon and for the most part they’ve got it right.  There’s nothing asshocking as seeing The Tourist pick up any credit like at last year’s awards.

It’s nice to see The Artist being given the credit it deserves, scooping six nominations.  Hopefully that’s a good indicator for the Oscars.  Close behind were Alexander Payne’s The Descendants and The Help, both with five nominations a piece.

Also good to see nominated were Kristin Wiig for Bridesmaids, Ryan Gosling for his roles in Crazy, Stupid, Love and The Ides Of March (even though his Drive performance was better), Albert Brooks for Drive and Michael Fassbender for Shame.

Puzzling choices for the Best Animated Film category in a year which wasn’t the greatest for animation.  The only one that really sticks out is Cars 2 though which is easily Pixar’s worst movie.  There was also a surprising amount of love for cancer comedy 50/50 which was excellent but not one tipped for awards and The Ides Of March,  a well-made but rather familiar political drama.
