I’ve always felt that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was an untapped comedy gem. Now he might get a chance to prove it in Michael Bay’s new film Pain And Gain (although Bay’s certainly not my favourite director) alongside Mark Wahlberg.
The plot is loosely based on the true events chronicled in the Miami Times in 1999 which saw two Florida bodybuilders involved in an extortion and kidnapping scheme. Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America) have written the first draft of the script which has been floating around at Paramount since 2001.
Variety reports that neither actor has signed on officially with The Rock having a lot of his time booked to film the two new Fast & Furious films and Wahlberg with offers to star in 2 Guns and Three Mississippi.
Bay wants to shoot the movie next spring. If nothing explodes, I’ll eat my Decepticon action figures.
