The Rock Signs For The Russo Brothers’ Ciudad

In our opinion, The Rock makes everything better.  That’s good news for the Russo Brothers’ new project Ciudad which has just locked him in for the lead.

It’s an adaptation of their graphic novel of the same name which stil hasn’t gone to press.  Set in Paraguay’s Ciudad del Este which is apparently one of the most dangerous and corrupt cities in the world, The Rock will play a mercenary who specialises in hostage retrieval hired to rescue the daughter of a Brazilian drug lord.  Sounds like the perfect vehicle for Dwayne Johnson’s perfectly honed eyebrows.

In a statement picked up by Deadline they said, “Exploring genre has always been a driving motivation for us as filmmakes. This movie is the culmination of a long time ambition to bring our sensibilities to an action thriller.”

This’ll make their first big screen out since 2006’s You Me And Dupree.  Since then, they’ve mostly been keeping busy with small screen projects like Community and Happy Endings but it’ll be interesting what they can bring to the action/thriller table.
