The Syndicate Wins Big: Series Two On The Way

Onto a winner...

It has only been one evening since the passing of BBC1’s emotional lottery-based drama, The Syndicate (*dabs eye with redundant lotto ticket*), but already there are hopes of a resurrection!

The show, created by Kay Mellor and starring Joanna Page of Gavin and Stacey and Timothy Spall of…everything, has now been commissioned for a second series by the Beeb.

BBC 1 controller, Danny Cohen, who has recently brought us the likes of Call The Midwife, Prisoners’ Wives and Birdsong, spoke of his excitement at the prospect of another winning series: “The Syndicate has been a big hit with BBC1 viewers. I’m greatly looking forward to seeing what Kay Mellor and the team dream up for a new set of lottery winners.â€?

After a slightly shaky start, with some critics branding it all a tad “scruffyâ€?, the show’s finale attracted around 5.4million viewers and has had many an officer worker visiting the proverbial water-cooler.

Writer Kay Mellor said: “I am thrilled by the response of viewers to The Syndicate. I enjoyed every minute I worked on the series, from the writing of the scripts to working on set. I am delighted that Rollem Productions are able to bring a second series to BBC1.â€?

So will the news series will feature the same five winners (losers?), following their trials and tribulations as they venture deeper into Louis Vuitton than ever before? Or will we, as Cohen suggests, see a whole new bunch of fortunate lottery winners destined for wealthy misery as their hefty bank balance fails to make any impact on their mood whatsoever…

If you missed it, watch the trailer for the first series below and then get yourself involved in some catch-up action.
