Middle-Earth fandom was abuzz with the news that Peter Jackson has confirmed that a third film will be added to The Hobbit double-header ‘An Unexpected Journey’ and ‘There and Back Again’ to make a trilogy and this morning there are whisperings about a potential name for the new movie.
The company who manage the existing URLs for The Hobbit movies have been registering new domains feverishly according to Fusible and here are the sites they’ve snapped up over the last few days.
..As you can see, two names seem to be cropping up more than others, opening a debate as to whereabouts in the series the third film would come.
If it was titled ‘Riddles In The Dark’, it would make sense that the film came second in the series and covered Bilbo’s meeting with Gollum and Gandalf’s trip to Dol Guldur (something Jackson has mentioned on a number of occasions). If the title is ‘The Desolation of Smaug’ then it makes sense that the film will come as the final act of the trilogy.
Of course the domains could refer to something else completely, but we’re not supposed to believe in coincidence..
