As This Morning celebrates its 25th anniversary, presenters Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby admit they feel incredibly proud to be in charge of television’s ‘crown jewels’.
And Phillip and Holly, who have worked on the award-winning daytime series for ten and four years respectively, say they are also deeply honoured to be anchoring the show on its landmark birthday.“You really do feel you are in charge of the telly crown jewels,” says Phillip. “It has such an incredible pedigree. Richard and Judy started the show and now for us to be in charge of it and seeing it through the 25 believed would have happened when it first began – is a real treat. I am very proud.”
Number of years on This Morning:
Phillip Schofield: “Ten years and I have just started my eleventh series. I was originally only supposed to be on every Friday!”
Holly Willoughby: “Four years and I have just started my fifth series.”
Eamonn Holmes: 10
Ruth Langsford: 13
Phillip: “There are too many. I love the fact we get to meet everybody, whether it is someone from the showbiz world, a moving real life story or someone who is in the papers.”
Holly: “It’s impossible as there have been so many. No day is the same and we cover such varied subjects.”
Eamonn: Interviewing Dame Edna Everage. It was a huge career landmark for me to meet one of my heroes.
Ruth: Interviewing Barry White and Jeff Bridges, who were both heroes of mine.
Phillip: “When a woman got a wound in a live knife-throwing feature.”
Holly: “When I got covered in ice cream in a live Mr Whippy competition with Phil!”
Ruth: When I stubbed my foot off-air and I swore but I didn’t realise my microphone was still on!
Eamonn: I wanted the ground to swallow me up when Ruth swore. I am not used to language like that!
Most star struck:
Phillip: “Dame Judi Dench and Will Smith”
Holly: “Joanna Lumley. I always look at ladies like Joanna Lumley and wish I could be like them!”
Eamonn: I am in awe or excited whenever I meet a big movie star like Nicholas Cage, Kiefer Sutherland and Sir Roger Moore. Meeting them gave me butterflies.
Ruth: Jeff Bridges as I have loved him since I was 14 and he was so charming and lovely.
