Sliding Doors actor John Hannah has slammed TV detective dramas â despite playing one himself.
The actor, who starred in Rebus (at least the first season) and portrays DCI Jack Cloth in cop spoof âA Touch of Clothâ? said that; “I can’t watch any of those shows now without finding them hysterically funny, even the serious ones, because they’re just worthy or maybe they’re not worthy, they just try too hard.â?
âI think we have got way too many… Everytime we are told there is a new cop in town and he’s different, well he’s not.â? Hannah said, adding; âThe only people more bored with cop dramas than the viewers are the actors that have to go through it.â?
The actor is apparently so peeved at the volume of detective telly shows that he was hesitant to read the script for âA Touch of Clothâ?, but took the part after he started reading it and subsequently âchortledâ? his way through.
A Touch of Cloth is the latest programme from Dead Set and Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker, and it will see Hannah being joined by Suranne Jones, who currently appears in ITV police drama Scott & Bailey.
A spoof of Hannah’s pet hate, A Touch of Cloth has had a second series (albeit a two-episode one) and a two hour film commissioned by Sky, despite the first episode not yet airing until August.
