Peter Jackson has announced that two new cast members, Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries, will be joining the ever-expanding cast of The Hobbit.
Lilly, who is best known for her portrayal of Kate in Lost, will be playing a woodland elf named Tauriel whose name translates to ‘daughter of Mirkwood’.
“Beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (no, there is no romantic connection to Legolas),” said Jackson, adding: “What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life.”
Australian born comic, Barry Humphries, (Finding Nemo, Immortal Beloved) is taking on the Serkis-esque role of ‘The Goblin King’ via the magic of mo-cap. “Barry is also a fine actor, and we’re looking forward to seeing him invest the Goblin King with the delicate sensitivity and emotional depth this character deserves,” said Jackson.
He also confirmed that major casting is now over following the recent announcements of Luke Evans as Bard ‘the grim’ and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, and promised more news would follow via his Facebook fan page.
