The cast for The Expendables 2 is getting more promising by the day. Last week we had the news that Arnie and Bruce Willis were going to feature in “substantial” roles (whatever that means).
Now news has reached us from Entertainment Weekly that Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris have confirmed their parts in the sequel. Not only that but Nic Cage is also a distinct possibility and John Travolta, Micahel Biehn (yes!) and Michael Pare are high on the wishlist.
JCVD has evidentally had a change of heart as he declined Stallone’s offer to appear in the first movie . Speaking to EW, Stallone said, “We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one”.
Sly went on to say, ““We’ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage,” says Sly. “We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them. We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.”
New blood eh? Well rumours have been floating around that Twilight’s Taylor Lautner might be involved and that would fit nicely with Sly’s description. Hmmm.
Personally, it’s the inclusion of Michael Biehn which has got me interested – where the hell has he been all these years? The guy should be a household name after Terminator, Aliens and The Abyss and though Taratino did give him a nod in Planet Terror, well, that wasn’t very good was it?
Now all Sly needs are some smaller players to flesh out the world. The cast of Predator would be great in this instance – Carl Weathers (would make a great link between Stallone and Schwarzenegger), Jesse Ventura (“I ain’t got time to bleed”), Bill Duke (who was also in Commando) – come on! What about Al Leong (the Chinese guy who steals a twinkie in Die Hard and tortured Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon 2). What about Gary Busey? He was everyone’s favourite bad guy in the 80s. Wesley Snipes (wait, is he still in jail?). As for women, surely Linda Hamilton deserves a call? What about Jenette Goldstein – she kicks ass!
