Warner Bros have become the first company to rent a movie on Facebook, after offering users the change to watch The Dark Knight.
On Tuesday, Warner said that it would allow users to rent the film using Facebook ‘credits’ the sites currency.
If it catches on, the move could make Facebook a major player in online movie rentals, challenging the likes of Netflix and iTunes. Warner have said that they might make more films available over time. The sheer amount of users on Facebook makes it a very attractive distribution centre for many products, and the ease with which the movies can be accessed would make it convenient for users.
The trial is currently being conducted on the US version of the site only, but if it proves successful expect to see it transferred to Facebook worldwide.
