The Harry Potter series has been the most successful motion picture franchise of all time, grossing over $12 billion for Warner Bros in the past decade.
Somehow, this isn’t enough for the company, which plans to discontinue DVD copies of all the Potter films starting December 29th. Doubtlessly, this is to set up lucrative re-releases down the line.
The final film of the series won’t reach home video until November 11th, making the window to complete your collection small.
This sales ploy has famously benefited Walt Disney Home Video, which routinely locks its animated classics away in the “Disney Vault” only to re-release them for a short time and hopefully sell a lot of copies. No re-release date has been announced for the Harry Potter DVDs.
